49ers' Ricky Pearsall Injured in Robbery Attempt; Suspect in Custody

Ricky Pearsall, a rookie receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, was shot on Saturday afternoon in downtown San Francisco.

The city's mayor, London Breed, announced on social media that Pearsall was shot during a robbery attempt in the Union Square area. She said that the police were on the scene right away and arrested the suspect.

According to NBC Bay Area, Pearsall is in stable condition, meaning he is not in immediate danger. Deebo Samuel, another player for the 49ers, posted that Pearsall is "good," and a team source confirmed to ESPN that Pearsall is expected to be okay.

The incident happened at the corner of Geary and Grant streets, near Union Square, just after 3:30 p.m. local time. The San Francisco Police Department said there was a fight between Pearsall and the suspect during the attempted robbery, and both were injured.

After the shooting, both Pearsall and the suspect were taken to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment.

Pearsall was selected by the 49ers in the NFL draft in April as the No. 31 pick from the University of Florida.
