**Jodie Grinham Makes History as First Pregnant Athlete to Win a Paralympic Medal**

British archer Jodie Grinham made history by becoming the first athlete to win a Paralympic medal while pregnant. She won a bronze medal in the women's individual compound open on Saturday, despite being seven months pregnant.

Competing while pregnant brought special challenges for Grinham. She sometimes had to ask her baby to stop kicking so she could focus on her shots. "The baby’s kicking which is great, but during the third round, I was like, 'Not right now, we’ll do kickies in a minute,'" she said after the competition.

Grinham said it felt special to have her baby with her during the event. She felt the baby was like a little support inside her. She won the bronze medal after beating her teammate, Phoebe Paterson Pine. Both athletes had narrowly lost in the semifinals. The gold medal went to Turkey's Öznur Cüre Girdi, who defeated Iran's Fatemeh Hemmati in the final.

Grinham explained that preparing for the Paralympics while pregnant meant adjusting to her changing body. Her baby bump changed her usual stance, so she practiced with her coach to get used to it.

Grinham is also competing in the mixed team compound quarterfinals with Nathan McQueen and hopes to win another medal. She wants people to see that being pregnant doesn’t stop someone from competing at the highest level and winning. She encourages others to believe that anything is possible if they want to do it.
